Tributes have been paid to former Kilkenny broadcaster, Tomm Dowling who passed away on Tuesday, May 7.

The Ballyragget native began his radio career at Kilkenny Community Radio (KCR) in 1979 and spent over 40 years in the industry.

Following the regulation of local commercial radio in 1989, Mr Dowling went on to host a wide-range of programmes on Radio Kilkenny, Carlow-Kildare Radio (CKR), KCLR 96FM and in latter years Community Radio Kilkenny City (CRKC).

The local man was a renowned country music presenter, newsreader and racing commentator garnering him a large listenership in Kilkenny and further afield.

Following news of his passing, many former friends, colleagues and listeners paid tribute to the father of two and grandfather of four.

"He will remain a legend of radio in Kilkenny. Much loved by listener’s and fellow presenters, he will not be forgotten," former radio colleague in KCR, Tony Brennan said.

"Without a doubt a brilliant & immensely talented broadcaster. Among the very best," former CKR radio presenter, Clem Ryan added.

Another listener commented: "Deepest sympathies to all of Tomm's family and friends at this sad time. He was a wonderful presenter and interviewer on radio for many years."
