• Gun-law reform isn’t the only arena in which teen activists are involved:
Generation Z — millennials’ younger brothers and sisters — are increasingly finding their voices in the Trump era, expanding media-savvy campaigns for racial equality and gun control to encompass climate change. A group of high school students are now planning a nationwide series of climate marches on July 21, when they will confront lawmakers in Washington, D.C., with a list of their demands for a livable climate.
“I’d say I do about three hours of conference calls every single day,” says the lead organizer of the march, Jamie Margolin, a 16-year-old high school sophomore in Seattle. “I’m not new to the climate activism world.”
• EPA finds that black Americans face more health-harming air pollution than white Americans. This is the case regardless of their wealth:
Researchers at the EPA's National Center for Environmental Assessment looked at facilities emitting air pollution, as well as at the racial and economic profiles of surrounding communities.
They found that black Americans were exposed to significantly more of the small pollution particles known as PM 2.5, which have been associated with lung disease, heart disease, and premature death. Most such sooty pollution comes from burning fossil fuels.

• Pew survey finds generation gap in politics. Millennials lean left:
The generation gap in American politics is now wider than it has been in decades and still growing, as younger generations are increasingly embracing liberal values and Democratic candidates, the Pew Research Center reported Thursday.
A majority of millennials (59 percent) surveyed say they affiliate with the Democratic party, and far more millennials than those in older generational cohorts favor a Democratic candidate in November’s midterm congressional elections, according to the Pew report.
Sixty-two percent of millennial voters say that if the election were held today, they would vote for the Democrat in their district, while only 29 percent of millennials say they would vote for a Republican.
• Supreme Court sides with Michigan tribe in homelands case. The Court ruled 6-3 in Patchak v. Zinke:
In a victory for Indian Country, the nation's highest court has confirmed that Congress can protect tribal homelands from litigation.
Announcing the judgment for the U.S. Supreme Court, Justice Clarence Thomas on Tuesday said Congress did not overstep its bounds when it enacted a law that put an end to a long-running land dispute in Michigan. The ruling marks a firm victory for the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians, also known as the Gun Lake Tribe.
