The Copper Princesses started their title defense with an emphatic 4-0 win over Mozambique to start their COSAFA U17 Girls Championship title defense on a good note.
Ruth Mukoma scored a brace while Grace ‘Pogba’ Phiri and Natasha Kasema chipped in with a goal each to seal the comfortable win.
Zambia dominated play from the word go with Taonga Mubanga impressing in the middle of the park.
Ruth Mukoma put Zambia on the lead just after six minutes as she pounced on a loose ball in the box unleashing a powerful shot into the roof of the Mozambique goal.
Grace Phiri doubled the lead in the 35th minute with a close range tap in off a Beatrice Njobvu assist. The match went to the break with the Copper Princesses leading 2-0.
At the start of the second half, Coach Carol Kanyemba introduced Natasha Chileshe in place of Grace Phiri.
The second half was slow with some disjointed play but the Copper Princesses quickly grew into the game.
Natasha Kasema made it 3-0 with a sumptuous strike in the 77th minute from outside the box.
Mukoma completed her brace with 9 minutes to time after benefiting from a mistake at the back, 4-0 the match finished.
Precious Mwewa was introduced late in the second half replacing Beatrice Njobvu. Mukoma was named as the player of the match.
