FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Both men and women from the area attended the march in support of women.  The march wasn’t just for women’s rights, it was in support of immigrants, blacks, gays, gun control and the environment.

According to the Journal Gazette, chairwoman of the Allen County Democratic Party, Misti Meehan said “I think we’re making a great deal of effort to be pointedly inclusive.”

On Saturday, around 75 people attended the third annual Women’s March at the Allen County Courthouse Square and they listened to speakers before marching down to the Allen County Public Library.  At the Library, tables were set up for various nonprofit organizations to hand out information about their groups.

Many signs were being held up at the event in support of many different causes.  Some of the signs said “Vote! This is not who we are,” “#Black Lives Matter #BeAware,” “Mothers against guns,” Empowered women empower women.”

Many people representing different causes attended the third annual march. Among the representatives was Allen County Councilwoman Sharon Tucker.  Among the attendees was a liaison for Hispanics and Immigrants in Fort Wayne, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Indiana and Kentucky and Local Black Lives Matter.

One community advocate expressed concern of Fort Wayne’s lack of access to affordable transportation and the high infant mortality rate in the southeast part of the city.

In 2017, the day after President Donald Trump’s inauguration, around 1,000 people attended the event.  This year, many struggled to stay warm with the cooler temperatures.  The event was originally scheduled for a day in January, which would have been colder.  Meehan added “You always lose when you reschedule.”
